Abstract One major focus of e ort in Distributed Arti cial Intelligence (DAI) research has been the development of software environments which support the construction of systems involving multiple interacting agents. Such systems can be divided into experimental testbeds and frameworks for building agent-based applications. This document reviews and compares a number of systems from both categories.
